The Historical City of London

See the famed sights of London and learn some of the history that made it the great city it is. Starting at the monument commemorating the Great Fire of London in 1666, the tour will take in the grand buildings where some eminent British institutions were founded, such as the Bank of England and the Royal Exchange. Along the way the city provides the opportunity to discover a great many curiosities, such as gabled houses that survived the Great Fire of London and have stood since the 1600s, and the secret garden in Postman’s Park, the walls of which are lined with touching memorials to residents dating back to the 1800s. Your knowledgeable guide will provide a history of the City of London and take you on a journey through the streets of the “Square Mile”, from gruesome, medieval tales to modern-day commerce. Discover the secrets of the Victorian arcades of Leadenhall Market, made famous by Harry Potter’s Leaky Cauldron, which to this day still provide fresh meat, cheese shops, wine merchants and speciality delicatessens under the glorious archways of this market.

London From the South Bank

South Bank is an area of incredible history, architecture, culture and regeneration. Originally isolated and defined by the Thames, for centuries this riverside location developed in a very different way from the affluent north bank. South Bank is home to great national centres for art and culture, a vibrant community and some of London’s finest achievements in architecture.

The tour will take in some of the riverside landmarks, including stops at: Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, the restored home of Britain’s greatest stage performances; the famous Borough Market, home to over 300 of the city’s finest food stalls; The Shard, London’s striking skyscraper for panoramic views of the cityscape, and finishing at Tower Bridge. The knowledgeable guide will reveal some of the secrets of the South Bank and delight you with its rich history and culture.

Combined Tour to Greenwich

Combining a River Thames boat trip, lunch in Greenwich and then a Routemaster tour back through central London, guests can experience a full day of London from West to East and back again. The River Thames weaves through the heart of London and, as well as being steeped in its own history, its riverbanks are peppered with iconic landmarks and historic buildings, such as the London Eye, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.

Upon arrival at Greenwich pier, you will be greeted by the Cutty Sark, the last of the great tea clipper ships, with time to view and hear about the great vessel, after which you will make your way through the Greenwich streets to lunch. Then, the tour will take you to the glorious Old Royal Naval College and the Royal Observatory Greenwich, set in the beautiful parkland of Greenwich Park. Quaint streets, attractive greenery and stunning, palatial grounds await you in this pretty and relaxed part of London. Finally, guests will have the opportunity to explore Greenwich Market before departure.

On the return journey get ready to experience a panoramic sightseeing tour with a live professional guide in an iconic London vehicle, the vintage double-decker Routemaster bus. Guests will be taken on a tour of London’s highlights, east to west taking in Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, St Paul’s Cathedral, Trafalgar Square, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, then Buckingham Palace before arriving back at the Hilton London Metropole.
